Golden Palace Chinese Restaurant in Downey offers a spacious, straightforward dining environment that leans into family-style meals and large portions. The atmosphere is practical and unpretentious, with clean seating that includes both booths and chairs, making it suitable for groups or casual dinners without the fuss of upscale décor.

This spot is a reliable choice for those looking for authentic Chinese dishes that balance traditional flavors with familiar comfort food. The menu features crowd-pleasers like Orange Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Kung Pao Chicken, along with standouts like Beef Chow Fun—a wider rice noodle dish that’s less common in the area and appreciated by those seeking something closer to home-cooked authenticity.

Portion sizes here are generous, often served family style, which makes Golden Palace a practical option for gatherings where sharing is part of the experience. The takeout service is known to be efficient, responding to the needs of busy locals who want good food without a long wait. Parking is ample, which is a welcome convenience in this part of Downey.

The restaurant tends to attract a diverse crowd, including families and groups of friends. Though the space does not fill up with dine-in customers consistently, the combination of takeout popularity and a no-frills dining area creates a relaxed vibe that works well for both casual weekday dinners and weekend family meals.

Drinks like Thai Tea and a selection of soups, including the spicy seafood noodle soup and the house special hot and sour soup, add variety to the meal. The flavor profiles lean toward moderate seasoning, so it’s a smart move to mention spice preferences when ordering. Desserts such as green tea ice cream provide a simple, familiar finish without overstating the experience.

In short, Golden Palace fits best into the local scene as a dependable, down-to-earth restaurant that caters to those seeking substantial portions of classic Chinese offerings in a straightforward setting. It’s well suited for people who prioritize flavor and quantity over ambiance, and for anyone in the Downey area who values easy parking and service with a friendly, no-nonsense approach.

A rated restaurant. Plenty of parking. Friendly employees. orange checkered I give it ⭐⭐⭐ it was a bit too crunchy for me. The flavor was good but some of them did not have the flavor. Orange beef was really good I gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ it could use a little bit more flavor. And the best part there's no fat in it. Just remember these are spicy you have to ask them no spicy. I could tell they recently remodeled and so it is really nice to go there

Here’s a refined version of your description: Tucked away as a true hidden gem, this cozy spot serves family-style Chinese food at unbeatable prices. The warm and inviting atmosphere, paired with exceptional customer service, makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. We opted for the family meals, which allow you to customize your order based on group size, with flexible options for each dish. You can even adjust the spice level or swap ingredients, like we did by changing one chow mein to a veggie version instead of beef. Every detail was carefully attended to, from the food’s delivery to the impeccable service, and most importantly, the taste. The dishes were savory, fresh, and comforting—approved 100% by my mom, who already can't wait to return! And let me tell you, the wonton soup was simply perfect, bursting with flavor in every bite. The ambiance suits both large groups and solo diners, and you get to pick your seating when you walk in. Whether you're sharing a feast with family or ordering a single plate for yourself, this spot will leave you wanting more.

The Southeast part of LA doesn't have a great variety of authentic Chinese restaurants but this is really close. They have the elusive Beef Big Rice Noodles dish which I've only seen at one other location it's basically a wide, rice noodle with beef. To a American or Hispanic palate it's probably bland or no flavor but if you add a little Thai chicken sauce (sweet and spicy) or some type of hot sauce it's a great dish. The only warning I would give you is that it's oily so gall bladders beware. The orange chicken is crispy, the house chow main (house means they throw all the meats in there) is great. The house fried rice is okay. Their Kung Pao is spicy and it does tell you that on the menu it's spicy so for some it might be too spicy. The Kung Pao though does not have your standard presentation of pale chicken pieces with vegetables, everything is cooked together with the peanuts and everything so it all turns out colored with the soy sauce and other ingredients but that also makes difficult to separate what you. They also use chestnuts in the Kung Pao another non traditional ingredient but it gives it a nice unexpected crunch. Their Thai tea with Boba passes. The gyōza/pot stickers are pan fried and not regular fried so they are softer and not crispy which I'm fine with! I've been here twice and I do like a lot. They answered my phone call and took my order over the phone and they asked for my phone number. Some places get a little uneasy with phone orders, so I do appreciate that they still do that. I forgot what else I ordered when I went there but I'm sure I'll take pictures of next time.

This must be some kind of hidden gem. This is not your every day "dollar Chinese take out. In fact, not even close. The Golden palace serves some of the finest Chinese food in the entire area. Be prepared to have a large appetite, as every thing is served family style, huge portions. So it's best that each person in your party order one dish. Don't be fooled by the lack of people dining in. The majority of their business appears to be take out or delivery, as a lot people were coming and going as well as their delivery person. You will not be disappointed.

Good tasted great. Fans are on and make food cold right away, thats their only downfall. We had 6 dishes, 5 adults and 2 little ones. Good prices . Bill came out to about $120. Server was very attentive, he was kind and funny. I would totally recommend this restaurant.
